About the Role
Burman are seeking an experienced Senior Category Manager for our University client to lead strategic procurement initiatives within the Teaching, STEM & Research, and Academic & Student Services categories. This pivotal role involves managing high-value contracts, negotiating with suppliers, and collaborating closely with university stakeholders to deliver value through innovative procurement solutions.
In addition to category management responsibilities, the Senior Category Manager will have line management duties for Category Managers within the People & Development Services and Professional & Business Services categories.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute comprehensive category strategies for designated spend categories.
Conduct in-depth analysis of supplier markets to drive cost reduction and maximise value for money.
Lead end-to-end procurement processes, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and university policies.
Drive enhancements in procurement policy, practice, and process across the institution.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
Provide leadership and guidance to Category Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
About the Team
The Strategic Procurement Team is evolving and redefining the way we deliver services. Our small procurement team is growing and moving to a category management approach that aligns with the institution's strategic vision and objectives. We are developing a strategic, coordinated procurement approach that improves commerciality, risk management, and service quality across the university.
Essential Skills and ExperienceProven experience in category management within a complex environment, preferably in higher education or public sector procurement.
Demonstrable experience in leading high-value contract negotiations and supplier relationship management.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess market conditions, cost drivers, and trends.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Experience in leading and developing teams, with a focus on continuous improvement and professional development.
In-depth knowledge of procurement governance, policy, and legislative compliance.
