Job Description
Help Shape the Future of St Wilfrid's Centre

St Wilfrid's Centre is approaching its 35th anniversary of supporting people experiencing homelessness, social isolation, and multiple disadvantage across Sheffield.

We are entering an exciting new chapter as the organisation begins a service redesign process to explore how we can best reach and support more people within our community.

We are now looking for passionate and committed individuals to join our Steering Group and help shape the future direction of the Centre.

As a Steering Group Member, you will contribute strategic insight, support organisational resilience and sustainability, strengthen external relationships, and help influence the future development of our services.

This is a voluntary position; however, reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed.

What You Will Bring Skills & Experience
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to see the bigger picture and support long-term planning
  • Experience within a professional, leadership, voluntary, community, or business environment
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to contribute ideas clearly and constructively
  • Comfortable using digital tools and systems for communication and information sharing
  • Ability to interpret and simplify complex information, including data, policy, or regulatory guidance
Desirable Experience (Not Essential)

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with:

  • Lived experience of accessing day centres, homelessness services, or related support services
  • Experience in policy development or public sector leadershipKnowledge of education and learning, particularly for people with learning disabilities and difficulties
  • Experience in grant funding, fundraising, governance, or strategic leadership
  • Community partnership development or public engagement experience
  • Connections or networks that may support partnerships, visibility, or future sustainability

  • Patient and persistent, with the ability to work effectively alongside people from diverse backgrounds
Time Commitment
  • Approximately 6 Steering Group meetings per year
  • Meetings are expected to last no longer than 2 hours
  • Occasional additional ad-hoc support or consultation may be requested.
