Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Dataminr is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Customer Knowledge team in the UK or Ireland. AI Innovation at Dataminr Our team tackles the most exciting trends in AI to power a revolutionary product that uncovers critical events around the world as they unfold.

Regenerative AI: our AI technology, ReGenAI, automatically regenerates real-time Live Event Briefs as events unfold. Learn more about this work in our regenerative AI capabilities.

Agentic AI: we recently launched our Agentic AI capability, called our Intel Agents, that autonomously generates critical context for clients on real-time events, threats, and risks, allowing them to see the clearest, most accurate view of what's happening on the ground.

Multimodal AI: our platform detects events from many different data types (images, video, sensor data, audio, and text in over 150 languages).

The opportunity

• Influence the next iterations of our architecture as we strive to get critical data to clients faster and with near-perfect reliability.
• Implement industry best practices along with novel patterns and technologies that will help improve the codebase and the product.
• Contribute code to production systems from the outset.
• Share responsibility for several microservices and design significant features that impact multiple services.
• Partner with other team members to plan and deliver the next iteration of our customer applications to support emerging use cases for our product.

• 10+ years of experience building backend services and applications
• Experience with Java, Scala, Python and/or other object-oriented programming languages
• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems, microservices and real-time streaming data
• Strong object-oriented design, API design, data modeling, data storage/retrieval and coding skills
• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms
• Proven track record of implementing and following strong engineering practices through hands-on coding
• Experience mentoring and influencing senior and junior engineers to evolve their skills
