Job Description

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse to join our team within the day surgery unit and Ward 1A at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We are looking for a motivated, caring and compassionate nurse who is able to work well under pressure within a high turnover, surgical unit. The unit comprises a day surgery unit and 15 inpatient beds and deals with a variety of general surgical, gastroenterology, orthopaedic, urology, ophthalmology, ENT and plastic surgery. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills working within a large and diverse multidisciplinary team. Candidates should have excellent care values and a strong sense of team spirit. Candidates should have enthusiasm to work, learn, and develop themselves and colleagues within the unit.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Part-time
Base location - Royal Hospital for Children
Shift Pattern - Various 11.5hr shifts, days and nights

Key responsibilities
  • Deliver high quality, person centred nursing care and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Support development of care plans and guide junior staff with complex patient needs.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote continuity of care between hospital and community services.
  • Lead ward operations in the absence of senior staff, including staff deployment and incident reporting.
  • Use resources efficiently and contribute to staffing and bed management processes.
  • Maintain safety standards and adhere to clinical policies, procedures and governance requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, evidence based practice and PREP compliance.
  • Contribute to staff and student training, and support patient/family education.
  • Engage in national/regional learning opportunities and participate in mentorship/preceptorship.
  • Support clinical audit, research awareness and evidence based improvements to patient care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job: Essential
  • Registered Nurse - Child Branch
  • Up to date NMC registration
  • Educated to or working towards degree level
  • Qualified paediatric/child branch nurse
  • IT management skills
  • Manual handling skills
