Job Description
Staff Nurse, ITU

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver effective, high quality nursing care for Level 1-3 patients within the critical care unit, using a patient centred model of practice and all available resources.
  • Supervise and direct junior nursing staff, healthcare assistants and other learners.
  • Manage care on a day to day basis for all patients in the clinical area in the absence of more senior colleagues, utilising hospital standards, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the management of resources and contribute to the corporate agenda.
  • Develop critical care knowledge and skills through the Band 5 Critical Care development programme; supervise and mentor student nurses and unqualified nursing staff.
  • Promote a quality service using research and evidence based practice.
Key Competencies
  • Accept professional accountability and responsibility for the nursing care of patients requiring critical care.
  • Acknowledge the potential misuse of critical care equipment that can cause harm, including death.
  • Provide the immediate management of critically ill patients in ICU, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring optimum care.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Supervised practice in an acute area.
  • Minimum 6 months acute ward experience.
  • Previous experience at Band 5 in an acute clinical area.
  • Well motivated, good team player, flexible and adaptable, able to prioritise workload.
  • Counselling skills and effective problem solving ability.
  • Compliance with the job description and adherence to all hospital policies.
  • Required to present original certificates of qualifications listed as essential in the person specification.
  • Subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Salary

£33,677 to £40,996 per annum, inclusive of HCAS.
