Staff Nurse( Day Ward ) Specific Purpose

Job Purpose

Staff nurses (Day Ward) are responsible for providing a high standard of nursing care to patients, applying the nursing process and the scientific knowledge, judgement and technical skills of professional nursing in delivering care to patient population of paediatric through to the elderly.

Ideal Candidate

• Ability to work as part of a team providing a quality service
• Personally and professionally accountable for patient care
• RGN qualification and NMBI registration
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexible approach to work patterns as the post holder will be required to rotate between days

Essential Qualifications

• Registered, or eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Nursing experience post registration preferably in surgical areas

Experience & Responsibility

• Carry out nursing care and treatments to the highest possible standard according to agreed policies, procedures and guidelines
• Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care based on the nursing process approach and maintain appropriate records
• Implement discharge planning based on patient care needs
• Administer medicines, IV drugs, blood/blood products and controlled drugs according to agreed policies
• Record and monitor patients post administration according to policy and report any adverse events or medication errors
• Adhere to best practice guidelines in controlling infection and report/manage infections as dictated by policy, working closely with the Infection Control Nurse
• Handle and correctly dispose of medical waste as per hospital policy
