Staff Nurse

Main duties of the job
  • To take professional responsibility as a named nurse for an identified group of patients.
  • To assist in providing an environment that is satisfactory to maintain the physical and mental wellbeing of patients and staff.
  • To deliver appropriate and effective evidence based clinical care without direct supervision.
  • To actively support and participate in the provision of joint Health and Social Care Services/interventions, ensuring co operation and collaboration at all times.
  • To ensure everyone has their right to be treated with respect, have their values and beliefs maintained, and receive care that maintains their privacy and dignity.
  • To lead a team of Associate Nurses and Healthcare Assistants in delivering continuous effective evidence based care.
  • To carry out comprehensive assessment including risk assessment with patients on admission to the area and at appropriate intervals thereafter.
  • To devise and implement individual strategies of care in conjunction with the patient, carer/family and members of the multi disciplinary team as appropriate, regularly evaluating and modifying the strategy as required.
  • To provide a high standard of care in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • To understand the principles of, and contribute to, the facilitation of a consistent and effective approach to the nursing process and care programme approach and complete the documentation to the required standard.
  • To carry out clinical procedures in relation to effective patient care and contribute to the training of junior staff in these procedures as appropriate.
  • To actively participate in the Trust observation/engagement policy and be aware of the patients whereabouts if required, at all times.
  • To actively participate and contribute to the development, provision and facilitation of the overall Trust service plan and, in particular, the development of a modern and progressive recovery focussed inpatient service within the quality assurance frameworks.
  • To respect the rights of the individual service users and their families, embracing values, spiritual beliefs and customs in accordance with the NMC code of conduct.
Qualifications
  • Core Professional registration RMN or RNLD
  • Mentor preparation course ENB998 or equivalent or willingness to attend.
Experience
  • Experience of working with people with Severe and Enduring Mental Health problems
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Experience of the recovery process.
Skills
  • Good communication skills. Able to assess, plan, implement, care
  • Good command of English language
  • Willingness and ability to participate in learner education.
  • Resourceful, motivated, reliable, conscientious, caring, innovative, effective under pressure, team member, good attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage/ability to develop skills in shift management and coordination in the absence of more senior staff.

  • Mental Health Act 1983 / 2007.
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Care Programme Approach
