Staff Nurse - RSCH Discharge Lounge

Role eligibility: This position is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route, subject to meeting UKVI requirements including skill and salary thresholds (£25,000) and any role specific criteria.

We are recruiting a Band 5 Registered Nurse to work full time (37.5 hours) in the Royal Sussex County Hospital Discharge Lounge. Hours are 08:00 - 20:00, Monday to Friday.

The Discharge Lounge facilitates patient flow by providing a place for patients to wait for transport or medication before discharge, thereby creating available acute beds for new admissions.

We're looking for proactive, creative nurses who communicate well and collaborate with wards to promote early use of the Discharge Lounge, ensuring a pleasant experience for patients leaving our care. Successful candidates will work within a supportive team and receive training and development support.

Applicants must hold a UK NMC registration. Internationally qualified nurses are not being directly hired at this time.

Job responsibilities
  • Follow the Trust's discharge policy and processes.
  • Act as patient/carer advocate at all times.
  • Provide nursing care to patients attending the department unsupervised, referring to other health professionals as necessary.
  • Prioritise care and delegate workload and lounge activities appropriately.
  • Deal professionally with emergency situations.
  • Ensure safe practice with regard to moving and handling, sharps and infection control.
  • Check TTOs prior to discharge using the Pharmacy Tracking system; ensure correct dispensing and follow up arrangements. Check the Electronic Prescribing of Medication and Administration (EPMA).
  • Identify and report clinical and non clinical incidents, taking appropriate action; raise Datix when required.
  • Update CareFlow system to contribute to an accurate and timely bed state.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and keep written documentation complete and up to date.
Person Specification - Qualifications / Experience
  • NMC pin (UK registration).
  • Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • General understanding of store keeping, patient handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of discharge procedures and pathways.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information with compassion and care.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage own workload and delegate work appropriately.
  • Experience supporting students and junior staff members.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per annum pro rata.
