An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 5 registered staff nurse to join our Community Macular service within the Garston Community Site. The role requires dual site activity, including St Paul's at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, most likely on a 3:2 split. The successful candidate will have experience within a hospital Ophthalmology unit and experience with Macular patients undergoing intravitreal injections.
We are looking for someone with experience of working in a high volume healthcare environment. Experience of working in an Ophthalmic setting would be an advantage.

Main dutiesYou will be working alongside an established Macular nursing team and your duties will include supporting patients who are attending the clinic. You will be performing vision checks, intra ocular pressure checks and learning other ophthalmic skills that will allow you to prepare the patients for consultation and injections. You will be working alongside a full multidisciplinary team.
Job responsibilities- Visual assessment, ophthalmic investigations, treatment and triage of patients attending the department.
- Preparation of patients undergoing ophthalmic investigations, including requesting relevant investigations and surgical procedures.
- Run and organise clinic and assist in ophthalmic surgical procedures.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers, and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
- Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
- Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
- Provide information and support to patients/carers, and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient's condition.
- Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
- Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
- Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care.
- Ensure effective lines of communication within the department.
- Assist the department manager in identifying required resources to enable nursing staff to provide agreed standards of patient care.
- Collaborate with other professional groups to ensure safe and effective care is made available on the department.
- Works in line with and promotes government and hospital strategies, ensuring nursing staff meet their responsibilities and are working to the aims and objectives of the organisation.
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration.
- Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment.
- Evidence of working with students.
- Post registration experience and successful completion of preceptorship.
- Ophthalmic experience.
- Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Ability to support less experienced staff.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communications.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Basic IT skills, including e mail and word processing.
