Staff Nurse - Gray Ward

A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Head and Neck Nurse to work within our department service at LNWH NHS Trust.

The role offers the rare opportunity for staff to work both within the hospital setting. You will be supported by an experienced team including Team Leaders, Clinical Nurse Manager and Matron. The variety of settings offers different learning opportunities as well as a chance to develop management skills.

Main duties of the job

Communicate effectively and work in partnership with patients, their relatives/carers, nurse colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure care is delivered accurately and efficiently.

Have good communication skills in verbal, formal documentation and electronic (IT) sources with all members of the nursing multidisciplinary team, patients and families.

Work in partnership with patients and family and other healthcare professionals in care/discharge planning.

Involve patients and carers/family in their care to ensure accurate information and establish good communication.

Identify, discuss and report any relevant nursing/patient needs with the teams/ward staff and patients.

Receive and hand over sensitive information regarding patients' medical condition.

Recognise the legal implications of nursing documentation and maintain accurate records.

Accept responsibilities; be aware and able to locate all policies related to good work practice within the clinical area and enable adherence by self and colleagues.

Maintain accurate and legible records of patient care in line with Trust Policies and NMC Code of Conduct.

Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and Trust Policies pertaining to patient confidentiality, the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Recommendations.

Education/Qualifications
  • RGN with NMC
  • Diploma in Nursing
Knowledge and Experience
  • Audit and quality issues
  • Previous skills in one of the specialties (ENT, OMFS, Head and Neck)
  • Airway Management Skills
  • Hospital experience on surgical wards
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and safely care for a group of patients
  • Interest in Head and Neck Surgical nursing
Skills and Attributes
  • Motivated and approachable, delivery of answers, willing to develop further
  • How to do tracheal suctioning

Salary: £36,943 to £44,900 a year, inclusive of High Cost Area Supplement.
