Staff Nurse - CAMHS High Intensity Unit

Our inpatient CAMHS is expanding to include a brand new purpose built 8 bed High Intensity Environment/PICU opening in 2026 at Alumhurst Road, Bournemouth. If you are a registered Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurse - either with CAMHS experience or looking to gain - we would love to hear from you! We also welcome newly qualified nurses, as we offer a fantastic preceptorship programme.
As a RMN/RNLAD Nurse you will work directly with young people and their families, providing assessments and therapeutic work within the Thrive framework. We aim to provide outstanding care, promote recovery and wellbeing, and make a positive change in the lives of young people. We invest in supporting and developing our nurses - supervision from a Clinical Team Lead will be provided, and training will be arranged as needed.
The RMN/RNLD role is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week for a 24 hour service. We would be flexible and welcome part time applicants of 22.5 hours. Any questions, including a ward tour, please contact Rebecca Matoug, Ward Manager ().
Shift patterns:
- Early - 07:00 to 15:00
- Late - 12:00 to 20:00
- Twilight - 16:00 to 00:00
- Nights (enhanced pay) - 19:30 to 07:30

Main duties of the jobThe role will be based in the Adolescent In patient Unit providing individual care to those within the unit in accordance with the integrated care programme approach.
You will work in accordance with the Trust Clinical Governance programme informing Senior Clinical Nurse when changes occur in circumstances that affect standards of care.
You will also be required to participate in all activities within the unit, including food preparation and supervision of meals.
As part of the role, you will be assisting in the organisation of outside activities in line with the Clinical Risk policy and be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of young people on external activities.
The role will allow you to develop effective liaison and communication with all disciplines, agencies, parents/carers and service users, giving sound advice and support to service users and their carers as appropriate in line with professional practice.
You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course - it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications- RMN
- Current NMC registration
- ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/mentoring qualification
- NVQ Assessor
- Further evidence of professional development and training
- Experience of working with seriously mentally ill clients during acute phases of illness
- Understanding of ICPA and risk assessment
- Understanding of medication management issues and psychotropic medication
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Working knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Basic IT keyboard skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training
- Previous experience of working with children and young people in mental health services
- Experience of using CBT/DBT/Motivational Interviewing
- Community Experience
- Knowledge of child protection issues and reporting processes
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Ability to apply physical intervention
- Understanding of current policy and guidance relating to children and young people
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
- A level of fitness and ability to participate and complete PMVA, Breakaway training and Manual Handling (practice and theory).
- Ability to travel using your own vehicle on Trust business.
