We are seeking an experienced, pragmatic Staff Engineer whois looking to take the next step, someone who is able to think strategicallybut still willing to roll up their sleeves and get into the detail, someone whois excited by the idea of taking a digital product from zero to one, buildingan online platform that delivers innovation and scalability in our insight andadvisory business, the Carbon Support Programme.
You will support the Chief Product Officer in defining theproduct strategy and pipeline, and be instrumental in delivering the productvision and creating a development team to bring our existing advisory productsonline in order to support our team and clients mitigate their carbon risk.
The Staff Engineer reports to the Chief Product Officer, andcollaborates closely with the Head of Research, Head of Sales and Head ofTrading, ensuring that cross-functional activity is aligned, commercially focusedand leads to revenue growth.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
In this role, you'll be building from scratch, with no oneelse's technical debt to deal with. Starting from an existing offline productwith an engaged, global user base, you are the player-coach who gets to take itfrom zero to one in an online environment you develop.
You'll help the CPO build a tech delivery team, you won'thave to deal with investors, and perhaps most importantly, you'll be in aposition to genuinely engage with and have an impact on perhaps the mostimportant carbon emissions reduction systems that humanity has at its disposal.If this sounds like you, come join the team!
Responsibilities
ProgrammingLanguages and Frameworks
Thedecision regarding which technology stack to use will be a primary requirementof this role in partnership with the CPO
Theexpectation is that choices will be justified based on both technical andnon-technical requirements, e.g. resource and skills availability
APIDesign & Documentation
Hands-onexperience in API design and development to integrate internal solutions withour own online platform and (potentially) other enterprise applications
Expertisein designing API documentation, using industry standard approaches such asOpenAPI, ensuring clear and understandable interfaces between internal systemsand external services
Cloudand Infrastructure
Hands-onexperience selecting, setting up and managing cloud platforms is a requirement
Asper languages and frameworks above, the choice of cloud platform will be madein partnership with the CPO, and will need to take both technical andnon-technical requirements into consideration
Aclear strategy for future scalability should be one of these requirements
DataManagement & Integration
Expertisein integrating APIs and data sources, ensuring smooth interaction betweenexternal tools, data sets and our internal services
Knowledgeof SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL) such that we are able toselect the appropriate database for our needs now and in future
Operations& Support
Hands-onexperience with debugging tools and performance monitoring tools likePrometheus, Grafana, and AWS CloudWatch
Implementanalytics tools to track platform performance and user behaviour
Utilisedata-driven insights to optimise product features and drive user adoption
Security,Governance and Monitoring
In-depthknowledge of API security, encryption protocols, and OAuth for secure accesscontrol in enterprise environments
Experienceimplementing security best practices and compliance standards like GDPR or ISO27001
Experienceusing tools such as Datadog, New Relic to monitor KPIs, logs, and performancemetrics
ProductDevelopment and Lifecycle Management
Aprimary responsibility is to establish a development process from zero usingindustry best practices
Inconjunction with CPO, support development and delivery of feature specificationand overall strategic delivery roadmap, based on requirements delivered by theProduct and Research teams
Managethe end-to-end product development process, utilising internal and out-sourceddevelopment resource as required and available
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in ComputerScience, Data Science or a related field
Proven experience (5+ years) in SaaS and/or dataanalytics platform development and management
Track record of successfully launching andscaling digital products or platforms
Strong analytical skills with the ability totranslate market insights into actionable product strategies
Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion forsustainability and combating climate change
Additional Requirements
International experience and/or familiarity withglobal environmental markets preferred
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced SMEenvironment and be able to roll up your sleeves
