Staff Counsellor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (22.5 hours a week) experienced Band 6 Staff Counsellor to join our well established Employee Wellbeing Psychological Therapy Service.
The role involves providing specialist brief counselling to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, UHB staff experiencing mild to moderate psychological distress. Experience in a range of therapy modalities would be beneficial. Our service offers support face to face, as well as online. Experience in offering therapy in these different formats is therefore an advantage, as is a willingness to work from different sites depending on the needs of the service.
You will be joining a friendly and supportive team consisting of Staff Counsellors, Clinical Psychologists admin staff and trainees/students.

Main duties of the jobTo be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of clients within the Counselling setting. To act in accordance with the BACP Professional Code of Conduct.To provide a structured counselling service to staff with mild to moderate mental health problemsTo manage caseload, all aspects of appointments and waiting list system(s)Provide an initial assessment including risk assessment and offer appropriate counselling contracts or referral to more appropriate servicesTo maintain client records appropriately and liaise with relevant professionalsTo undertake surveys and audits as required by the Employee Well-Being ServiceTo work autonomously within professional and Health Board policies and proceduresOffer advice and support to colleagues as appropriate on counselling and mental health issues

To provide a specialist brief structured counselling service for Health Board staff with mild to moderate mental health problems. This will normally be one to one counselling but may also include group work where appropriate and as requested within the current resources of the service and if this is within the counsellors expertise/training.To assess clients presenting with multiple and complex issues regarding suitability for counselling in line with the Service Protocol.To select appropriate therapeutic treatment and make decisions regarding referrals to specialist treatment or other resources as appropriate.To assess elements of risk of harm to client/self/others/property and take action as appropriate. This may involve breaching client confidentiality in interest of client or wider legislation e.g. Childrens Act (1989); Drug Trafficking Act (1994); Terrorism Act/Road Traffic Act (1998).To sensitively communicate complex information to clients to encourage therapeutic engagement.To deliver therapeutic packages to suit the needs of individual clientsTo organise and manage a counselling workload and plan appropriate interventionsTo maintain appropriate recordsTo provide written reports if requested to do so by the client in consultation with the Head of Well-BeingTo work with the Employee Well-Being Service:as a resource for staff to self-referas a resource for discussing the counselling and psychological needs of Health Board staffas a resource for education and training within the Employee Well-Being Service

Person Specification Qualifications- Postgraduate qualification in adult counselling
- To have current membership which should be appropriate for professional practice as a counsellor and requires adherence to a recognised Code of Ethics and Practice e.g. BACP/EKCP/CPC
- BACP accreditation/CPC (Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Primary Care) registration/equivalent e.g. UKCP
- At least 450 hours of supervised practice accumulated within 3 to 6 years (they do not have to be consecutive years).
- Has worked as a counsellor with clients with range of mild to moderate mental health difficulties
- Experience of working as a counsellor in a medical setting/in Primary Care using brief focused counselling
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
