Job Description

Location: Between Initial Accommodation Hotel (specific address provided upon appointment) and St Georges Concert Hall, Great George St, Bristol BS1 5RR.

Time Commitment

• Not required every week: We will build a small group of 5-6 volunteers, of which 1-2 will run the trip each week based on availability. This will be coordinated on WhatsApp the weekend before.

• A minimum availability of once every three weeks, Thursday 12-3pm, is required.

Reports to: Outreach Team

DBS Check Required: Yes, (can be arranged in-house)

Responsibilities
  • Meet between 2 and 8 Bristol-based sanctuary seekers at their initial accommodation in Bristol city center, from a pre-compiled list which will be provided.
  • Accompany the group to St George's (20 minutes' walk).
  • Pick up tickets from the ticket desk and show the group into the hall.
  • If the group wants, stay in the St George's café for a hot drink which is provided free with Community Tickets.
  • Create a welcoming environment for attendees, connecting with them socially and facilitating the group (some of whom will have never met before) to get on and enjoy their time together.
  • Make sure that all attendees feel involved, included, and enjoy the trip as much as possible.
  • Answer any questions about Bristol that attendees may have to help them in the process of feeling at home in Bristol. (In a casual capacity, you are not required to have any specialist knowledge.)
  • Communicate clearly with Outreach Officer (regarding capacity, absences/holidays, challenges, training needs, etc.).
  • Attend and engage in training relevant to the role description. This will happen outside of the designated volunteering day and time.
  • Notify Billy or Abbe when concerned about the safety or wellbeing of adults and children.

  • Comfortable working with people whose first language is not English
  • Respectful, inclusive, and culturally sensitive
  • Understanding of and commitment to data protection and confidentiality
  • Willing to undergo a DBS check (facilitated by Borderlands)
