Thorn Baker are recruiting for a Sports Groundsman to join a local council's Green Spaces team based in Ilkeston.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in fine turf maintenance and sports pitch preparation, who takes pride in delivering high-quality playing surfaces.

Hours

• Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00
• Friday: 07:30 - 12:30

Pay

• Weeks 0-12: £12.71 per hour
• Weeks 13-52: £13.26 per hour
• Weeks 52+: £13.47 per hour

Duties include

• Maintaining fine turf areas including cricket, bowls, croquet, and golf surfaces
• Marking out sports pitches (football, rugby, cricket, baseball)
• Operating pedestrian and ride-on mowers (rotary and cylinder)
• Carrying out routine grounds maintenance to a high standard
• Ensuring playing surfaces are safe, presentable, and match-ready

What we're looking for

• Experience in fine turf or sports ground maintenance
• Knowledge of pitch marking for multiple sports
• PA1/PA6 certification (preferred)
• Competence with pedestrian and ride-on mowers (rotary and cylinder)
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all conditions
• Reliable, detail-focused, and able to work as part of a team
