Speech and Language Therapist

We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to join our integrated SLT service in Ipswich and East Suffolk. This role rotates through all service areas including acute inpatients, stroke (including ESD), ENT, community, and adults with learning disability, providing assessment and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

Main duties

• Provide speech therapy assessment and interventions for adults with communication and swallowing disorders arising from stroke, degenerative disorders, and other neurological conditions.
• Deliver direct 1:1 support, group sessions, devise therapy plans for assistants and training/education to staff and families.
• Work across inpatient, outpatient and community settings, travelling across East Suffolk as required.
• Support early career therapists through a preceptorship scheme, dysphagia competencies, monthly communication therapy support sessions and CPD meetings.

Knowledge and experience

• Knowledge of neurologically impaired patients and evidence-based practice.
• Knowledge of normal and abnormal swallowing and aphasia therapy.
• Experience assessing communication impairments, differential diagnosis and bedside assessment of dysphagia.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to audit/clinical governance.
• Portfolio of CPD evidence relevant to the post.
• Ability to travel and possess a driving licence.

Qualifications

• RCSLT-recognised degree or equivalent.
• Eligible for registered membership of RCSLT.
• HCPC membership.
