This new one year fixed term post is for a Specialty Doctor with preferably Section 12 approval, responsible for providing clinical input to Deacon Unit and the Intensive Support Service.
The role is split between the Intensive support service to provide support to the wider teams in providing mental health assessment and crisis management in order to primarily support the prevention of admissions to the inpatient unit. but also help with facilitating discharge from the inpatient unit back to the community in order to help the flow of the patient pathway and support the inpatient consultant deliver high quality care.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will form part of the team working closely with community teams to help maintain an individual in the community. The post will primarily be community based but will have some time within the inpatient flow pathway and support the Consultant, who is primarily responsible for this process.
The county-wide role will work with others in the team to support the individual in their home. Working collaboratively, the prevention of admission is the primary outcome. The post holder works with community teams to facilitate and agree on an acute care management plan to prevent admission during a crisis. The post holder can also act as a gatekeeper to the inpatient unit where needed, supported in their decision making by the consultant responsible for the overall pathway.
The post holder will report to Dr Anushka Dissanayake (Consultant Deacon Unit and Intensive Support Service) and next to Prof Raja Mukherjee (Associate Medical Director). Postholder will have 1.5 SPA session, 4.5PA in ISS and 4 PA in Deacon. The balance will be confirmed and reviewed as part of job planning.

Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
- Full medical registration with a license to practice.
- Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
- Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
- Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams.
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
- Knowledge of psychiatric provision
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.
- Experience in management
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
