Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Psychiatry

We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.

HPFT's Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation pathway is designed for service users with complex and enduring long term SMI.

The existing pathway currently includes Secure Services, High Dependency Services and Community Rehabilitation Hospital Units alongside a time limited Enhanced Rehabilitation Outreach Service (EROS), a community rehabilitation service.

EROS: Enhanced Rehabilitation Outreach Service (This post)

EROS is a countywide service and the postholder will work with a Consultant Rehabilitation Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric care for the patients under the care of EROS.

EROS provides support to individuals with complex and enduring long term severe mental illness in the community. It provides the following pathways which service users can join and leave at different points and according to their needs.

There is a locally coordinated MRCPsych Course and the post holder will have the opportunity to teach on that. There are many opportunities for the post holder to contribute to multidisciplinary teaching, including the established monthly Medicines Management Training Course, which is available to all clinical HPFT staff. The post holder is expected to teach trainees in psychiatry.

Main duties of the job
  • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
  • To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
  • To participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
  • To comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.

Job responsibilities
  • Provision of psychiatric expertise to the EROS team.
  • To undertake outpatient clinics, and home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
  • To liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services.
  • To have regular clinical supervision with the consultant psychiatrist. It is the post holder's responsibility to ensure that this is booked.
  • To carry out assessments under the Mental Health Act as and when appropriate. To write reports for Tribunal and renewal hearings for patients detained under CTO and provide medical evidence in the hearings.
Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
ELIGIBILITY
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
  • Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 4 years' full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two years of which to be within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry or have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience within community psychiatry.
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry.
  • Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to management of people with complex psychosis.
ACADEMIC SKILLS LIFELONG LEARNING
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical problem solving in interdisciplinary areas.
  • Possession of good organisational skills.
  • Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (Unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
