Job Description
Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (Fixed Term)

The closing date is 23 February 2026

The post-holder will join the friendly and enthusiastic clinical team based at the Prince Charles Hospital (PCH) as a middle grade doctor covering general paediatrics and a neonatal unit (admits babies above 32 weeks gestational age).

The post holder participates in 1:9 rota. These posts include opportunities to undertake further postgraduate qualifications including a postgraduate certificate in medical education, Cardiff University; MSC/Fellowships in paediatric specialties.

English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

We have 2 vacancies for up to 6 months and 1 vacancy for up to 12 months due to departmental changes.

Main duties of the job
  • Conduct daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit and report to the consultant in charge.
  • Supervise junior medical team and act as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.
  • See patients in the Emergency Department when required based on clinical and team situations.
  • Carry out safeguarding medical examinations when adequately trained.
  • Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.
  • See new and follow-up general paediatric patients in clinics under supervision of consultant.
  • Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the children's service.
  • Manage the acute paediatric assessments working alongside the clinical team with consultant support.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration
  • NLS/APLS certified
  • 4 years post-graduate training
  • NLS/APLS Instructor
  • Ability to keep good medical notes
  • Understanding of child safeguarding
  • Participation in clinical audits
  • Level 1-3 child protection training
  • Formal training in teaching methods
