About us

The Trust is a cancer centre and has a radiotherapy unit based at the Royal Preston Hospital Site. The Central Lancashire Breast Unit, based at the Chorley & South Ribble Hospital site was opened in July 2012. In the mammography suite there are two digital mammogram machines equipped for stereotactic and vacuum assisted biopsies. There are also two ultrasound rooms and two portable ultrasound machines for use in the clinic. Most biopsies are performed by the radiology team under image guidance. New patient breast clinics are run across the week (10 clinics per week) with biopsy results discussed on a Thursday in the MDT meeting. The service treats approximately 330 breast cancers per annum.
