Specialist Biomedical Scientist

The PostThe National Microbiology Reference Unit (NMRU) is part of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and is based at the Jack Copland Centre on the Heriot Watt University campus, Edinburgh. The NMRU provides frontline screening and confirmatory testing for viral markers transmitted by blood transfusion. The Specialist Biomedical Scientist will conduct microbiological testing for a range of viral markers, support serological and molecular testing, and participate in validations, assay development and epidemiological research.
The CandidateYou should hold an honours degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related field and be registered with the HCPC. High attention to detail, proficiency in standard Microsoft Office software and experience with PCR and/or microbiological serological techniques are desirable. Applicants must be able to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check and, if they have lived or worked overseas for more than 12 months in the previous 5 years, provide a criminal record check from the relevant overseas agency. Current HCPC registration is required at the time of application.
Location and Working PatternThe Jack Copland Centre, 52 Research Avenue N, Currie, EH14 4BE.
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
You must live and remain a resident within the United Kingdom throughout your employment with NSS.
