On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs we are looking for a Solutions Architect for a 12 Month contract based in Derby (3 days per week on-site).

The Role & Responsibilities:

Experienced Solutions Architect to define the target architecture for next-generation test and engine-testing facilities. You will set the high-level design and standards that ensure performance, scalability, resilience, secure OT/IT integration, and reliable handling of terabytes of test data. This is a strategic, hands-on architectural role that partners closely with IT Systems Engineers (implementation), DevOps, Security, and Test Operations to move from Legacy platforms to a modern, cloud-hybrid, automated environment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Architecture & Strategy
    • Define the target state architecture for compute, storage, network, and backup/recovery supporting large-scale testing engines.
    • Produce architecture artefacts: logical/physical diagrams, component catalogues, interface contracts, and non-functional requirements (NFRs).
  • Performance, Resilience & DR
    • Set standards for high-availability, load distribution, data replication, and disaster recovery (RTO/RPO targets).
    • Architect scalable data pipelines and tiered storage strategies (hot/warm/cold) for terabyte+ datasets.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Define a secure reference architecture addressing IT & OT segmentation, identity management, least privilege, network zoning, endpoint hardening, logging/monitoring, and secure data transit.
    • Specify controls required for regulatory or industry security standards and integration with SOC processes.
  • OT/IT Convergence
    • Design safe, deterministic integration patterns between OT (SCADA/PLC, test rigs, sensors) and enterprise IT (analytics, storage, identity).
    • Specify secure gateway/topology, protocol mediation, and data diodes/gaps where required.
  • Migration & Modernisation
    • Create migration blueprints from Legacy platforms to the target architecture (phased, low-risk approach).
    • Define patterns for rehosting, refactoring and data migration for large datasets.
  • Platform & Technology Guidance
    • Recommend technology stacks (networking - Cisco fabric, virtualization - VMware, storage - SAN/NAS/object, cloud services, container platforms).
    • Define automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code standards and DevOps toolchain integration.

Key Accountabilities, Skills & Experience:

  • Candidate must possess or be eligible to receive SC Clearance.
  • Proven experience designing architectures that handle terabytes+ of data (storage, transfer, backup, archiving).
  • Strong networking background - Cisco switching/routing, network design, segmentation, Firewalls, VPNs.
  • Deep knowledge of virtualization (VMware) and containerisation patterns; hybrid cloud design (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Expertise in storage technologies (SAN, NAS, object), replication, snapshots, and backup/DR solutions.
  • Experience designing secure OT/IT integration patterns and understanding of OT protocols (desirable).
  • Practical DevOps experience - IaC (Terraform/ARM), automation pipelines, configuration management.
  • Experience with systems migrations at scale.
