The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join SSE's in house legal team as a Property Solicitor. Operating across the SSE Group, our legal function helps ensure that business decisions support our strategic priorities while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, responsibility and ethical behaviour. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business, you'll provide trusted legal support on a broad range of property matters, helping to identify and manage legal risk while supporting the safe and successful delivery of essential energy projects.

You will
  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of property acquisition and land use agreements, including leases, purchases, sales, options, rights of way and wayleave agreements, supporting both onshore and offshore projects.
  • Manage applications and queries with Tailte Éireann, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail throughout the process.
  • Provide practical and commercially minded advice to stakeholders on a wide range of property related matters, including the interpretation of legal agreements and landlord and tenant issues.
  • Build positive relationships with external legal advisers, managing instructions effectively to deliver high quality support and value for the business.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider legal team, providing support on property matters and contributing to ad hoc legal queries and agreements where required.
You have
  • Qualification as a solicitor in Ireland with approximately 2-5 years' post qualification experience, although applications from candidates with broader levels of experience are welcomed. Dual qualification in ROI and NI would be an advantage though by no means essential.
  • Strong property law experience, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of property agreements, together with experience in title investigation, due diligence and land registration processes.
  • An understanding of planning law and/or the energy sector would be advantageous, although neither is essential.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently whilst building trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and commercial awareness skills, alongside a commitment to delivering high quality legal support in a safety led and values driven environment.
