Software Development Engineer, CAM

Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon's Retail business growth worldwide through three core tasks: (a) Selection, sourcing, creating, and enriching ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination, resolving inbound supply chain defects and developing root cause fixes to improve free cash flow; and (c) supporting operational processes for world wide retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The RBS tech team develops automation that leverages machine and deep learning to scale execution of these complex tasks that currently require human cognitive skills. Our solutions ensure that information in Amazon's catalog is complete, correct, and comprehensive enough to give Amazon customers a great shopping experience every time. We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who can design and develop systems for our businesses. As an SDE, you will have the opportunity to explore how to model things, determine appropriate abstraction levels, and make judgment calls on multiple design trade offs that influence a multi billion dollar business.

We are looking for highly talented software development engineers who are passionate about architecting and developing large scale distributed technology solutions, innovating new ideas, and providing direction to our business. You will work on key initiatives planned to support our rapid growth, drive best practices, mentor other engineers, and continuously improve engineering and operational excellence. As an SDE on the RBS team, you will collaborate with other SDEs and applied scientists to build robust engineering platforms that solve high impact issues. You will stretch the boundaries of innovation to tackle business challenges.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Software developer with a diverse skillset and background.

• Solving difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
• Inventing, designing, and building stable and performant software.
• Using a broad range of design approaches and knowing when and how to apply them.
• Limiting short term workarounds and avoiding over engineering.
• Making appropriate trade offs, re using components, and judiciously introducing dependencies.
• Optimizing resource usage (system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.).
• Working on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers.
• Actively participating in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, ticket and metric reviews.
• Focusing on operational excellence, identifying problems, and proposing solutions.
• Improving team software and processes through software enhancements.
• Training new members on how team's software is constructed, operates, is secure, and fits into the bigger picture.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development life cycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
