Social Care Worker - Dublin

Purpose of Role

Aftercare services are support services that build on and support the work that has already been undertaken by many including, foster carers, social workers and residential workers in preparing young people for adulthood. Everyone has a key role to play in preparing young people to reach their developmental milestones. At present the company has vacancies in aftercare, transitional care and within the sphere of outreach work with young people/vulnerable adults in the community living independently or in Family/Foster Care Setting.

The Company

Barróg Healthcare is a small private health & social care company based in Dublin with services nationwide providing residential care and day packages nationwide to enable people who need support across the areas of mental health, disability, aftercare, transitional and mainstream social care. Salary: €15 to €19.86 hourly.

Job Type: Full time, Part time

Working Hours: 12 hour day shifts (10 am to 10 pm), 24 hour shifts (10 am to next day 10 am). Flexibility for shift work may be required due to the 24/7 nature of the role.

Reporting Relationship: This post will report to the Aftercare coordinator

Job Title: Social Care Worker

Vetting: All applicants will be subject to reference checks, Garda Vetting and a request to provide security clearance from any country in which they resided for more than 6 months after their 16th birthday.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • One year of experience in a healthcare or disability support setting.
  • For Social Care Worker role a minimum of a B.A. in Social Care, QQI Level 7 PLUS registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU by Nov 2025 is required.
  • All applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:
    • National Diploma in Childcare, QQI (formerly HETAC/DIT)
    • National Diploma in Applied Social Care Studies, QQI (formerly HETAC/DIT)
    • Diploma in Social Care, QQI (formerly HETAC/DIT)
    • Diploma in Applied Social Studies/Social Care, DIT
    • BA (Ordinary Degree) in Social Care Practice (Level 7, QQI)
    • Open Training College National Diploma in Applied Social Studies (Disability)
    • Equivalent qualification as recognised by regulatory bodies
  • CORU registration or active application in process.

CORU registration as a Social Care Worker will be required for this role from Nov 2025. Are you currently registered as a Social Care Worker with CORU?

Advantage Criteria
  • Full clean driver's license
  • One year of experience in a Social Care setting
  • Experience/knowledge of report writing and client support plans
  • Experience working with service users with challenging behaviour and mental health
Candidate Skills / Experience
  • Ability to support the client group in a non-judgemental, trauma-informed way with respect at all times
  • Ability to prevent and manage challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Comfortable using information technology and providing reports
Main Duties / Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of Care/Placement plans and ensure proper recording
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/service user or vulnerable adult
  • Encourage attendance at school, training centres, medical and clinical appointments
  • Liaise with parents, family, general services and other agencies on behalf of the service user
  • Work with the Management Team guidance and implement Barróg Healthcare's policies
  • Work as a member of a team and participate in care planning meetings
  • Prepare and provide, with the client, well-balanced meals and manage household tasks
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to progression/implementation of care plans
  • Report to the Service Manager/Team Leader and maintain records to a high standard
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures and current legislation; undertake ongoing professional training
  • Attend regular supervision and professional meetings, including case conferences
  • Perform other duties as assigned; contribute to post while in office
