SME Electrical Engineer - Homeworker

About the role

We seek an Electrical Engineer who is flexible (with travel to various locations) and reports to the UK & IRE Engineering Manager. The role involves acting as Technical Authority for electrical systems, ensuring safety, providing technical support, and leading plant modifications and design projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply electrical engineering codes and standards, managing deviations.
  • Manage electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, motors, VSDs, UPSs, and hazardous area cabling.
  • Ensure equipment/system performance standards.
  • Serve as a designated Electrical Competent Person under regulations.
  • Oversee the MOC process, project scoping, and plant modifications.
  • Prioritize equipment replacement and prepare cost estimates and business cases.
  • Manage vendors, tenders, and participate in technical evaluations.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., DSEAR, BS 7671).
  • Experience in MAH environments, safety-critical tasks, and competency assessments.

About You

Applicants should have a degree in Electrical Engineering, CompEx Design (Ex12), and be chartered or working towards it. Experience in electrical system design, load calculations, fault analysis, and hazardous area equipment is required. Knowledge of legislation (DSEAR, EWR, EER, etc.) and standards (BS 7671, BS EN 60079) is essential. Experience in COMAH industries, asset management, and mentoring is desirable.
