Attention Small Animal Vets: Chelmsford Opportunity with Base Salary of £52,000 - £60,000 DOE

We are thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon looking to work in Chelmsford, with a flexible role offering both full time and part time options.



The Package



- Salary: £52,000 - £60,000 DOE


- Hours: 38 - 40 hours/week, flexible across 4 or 5 days


- Weekends: 1 in 4 Saturdays (consults only), no OOH


- Holidays: 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays


- CPD: £1500 per year, fully funded certificates available


- Benefits: Pension, supportive clinical mentorship, standard employment benefits


- Accommodation/Car: Not provided


- Bonus/Commission: Not currently offered, but open to discussion



The Practice



Overview


This is a purpose-built, independent first opinion practice known for fostering a supportive and clinically-focused atmosphere. It's an opportunity not to miss due to one of the team members moving on to locum work. You'll be part of a tight-knit practice where development and enjoyment in clinical work are paramount.



Facilities & Equipment


- 4 consult rooms, 2 surgical theatres


- X-ray suite including dental x-ray


- Separate prep and imaging rooms


- Purpose-built premises with natural light



Team Structure


- 4 vets, including vets with special interests in surgery, imaging & cardiology


- 3 student nurses, 1 VCA, 2 receptionists, 1 Practice Manager



Culture & Ethos


- Independent, clinically driven, mentorship-focused


- Strong emphasis on staff development and case continuity


- Enjoyment of clinical work, minimal jargon or KPI pressure


- Plans to expand hours based on client demand



Location & Accessibility


- Located in Chelmsford within a trade park setting


- Train station nearby and a five-minute walk from a bus stop

The Role


Ideal for clinicians with 2+ years post-graduate experience, though confidence, passion, and drive are the key attributes we value. Mentorship in surgery, imaging, and cardiology is readily available to all team members.



Working Pattern


- 38 - 40 hours/week (4 or 5 days flexible)


- Mix of consulting (20 consults/day) and surgery (3 - 5 cases/day)


- Consult-only rota for Saturdays (1 in 4)


- No OOH or on-call duties, handled by Vets Now


- Minimal sole charge required
