You'll provide strategic and operational leadership for our Sleep Physiology Service, ensuring high quality diagnostics and therapies, supporting colleagues in sleep disorder management, and helping shape the future of our service. Main duties of the job

Main Duties

  • Take overall responsibility for the management and leadership of the Sleep Physiology Service, ensuring smooth day to day operations and the achievement of key performance targets such as DM01 and RTT.
  • Shape the strategic direction of the service, working proactively to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Lead on recruitment and workforce planning, allocate tasks effectively within the team, and maintain robust quality assurance processes to uphold the highest standards.
  • Provide advanced clinical expertise and guidance, particularly in the diagnosis and management of obstructive sleep apnoea, supporting clinicians to deliver outstanding patient care.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Respiratory & Sleep Physiology and the Clinical Lead, offering professional advice, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting the sharing of best practice.
  • Support senior management in delivering a cost effective, high quality service, contributing to strategic planning and ensuring resources are used efficiently for the benefit of both patients and staff.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development by maintaining your own clinical practice, engaging in continuous learning, and driving service improvement initiatives.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the Sleep Physiology Service, including strategic direction, recruitment, and quality assurance.
  • Oversee clinical delivery, particularly in the diagnosis and management of obstructive sleep apnoea, supporting clinicians and upholding high standards of care.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management to deliver a cost effective, high quality service, contributing to strategic planning and resource management.
  • Foster a supportive team environment, providing professional advice and promoting best practices.
  • Maintain and develop your own clinical expertise, driving continuous improvement within the service.
  • Deliver specialised advice and education to medical professionals, students, patients, and company representatives.
  • Perform and oversee key sleep investigations, including polysomnography, sleep latency tests, oximetry, actigraphy, and CPAP titration.
  • Organise and manage the operation of the sleep service, including staff performance, training, and service development.
  • Ensure equipment reliability, data protection, and compliance with Trust policies.
  • Participate in research, development, and service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • MSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • Knowledge of sleep physiology
  • Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or HCPC
  • RPSGT
  • BSS or ARTP membership
