Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) - OpenShift Specialists
Location: Wokingham (Reading) | Hybrid (60% remote/40% onsite)
Duration: Until 30/01/2026 - with potential extension
Rates:
- Up to £390/day - SRE (x2)
- Up to £480/day - Senior SRE (x1)
- Up to £560/day - Principal SRE (x1)
- Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
Engagement: Inside IR35
We're seeking OpenShift-focused Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) at multiple levels to support a major programme in the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sector. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-impact platform ensuring scalability, reliability, and security for essential systems. You'll be part of a cross-functional engineering team, working with cutting-edge cloud-native technologies to automate, monitor, and optimize complex OpenShift environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within Agile teams to drive automation, deployment, and infrastructure management.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and compliance of platforms and business-critical applications.
- Implement and manage observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo).
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Helm or Kustomize.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Tekton and ArgoCD.
- Support and troubleshoot OpenShift Operators (ServiceMesh, ODF, ACS, ACM, AMQ).
- Conduct security reviews and apply controls aligned with national infrastructure standards.
- Mentor team members and promote SRE best practices across teams.
- Work closely with vendors and internal IT teams to resolve incidents and improve platform reliability.
What You'll Bring
- Hands-on OpenShift and Kubernetes expertise (essential).
- Strong experience with Red Hat Linux environments.
- Scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python).
- Proficiency in Helm, Kustomize, and IaC practices.
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps tooling.
- Solid understanding of security and compliance in regulated environments.
- Experience with VMware vSphere and hybrid infrastructure setups.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with distributed teams.
