Job Description
Overview

A well-established and growing organisation within the organics recycling and resource recovery sector is seeking a Site Manager to oversee the safe and efficient operation of one of its processing facilities. This is a confidential appointment and offers the opportunity to play a key role in delivering high standards of operational performance, environmental compliance and product quality within a busy composting operation. Reporting to senior management, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the site, ensuring compost production processes operate efficiently while maintaining strict environmental and health & safety standards. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining operational oversight with team supervision and quality management.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee composting operations and monitor critical process parameters such as temperature, moisture and aeration.
  • Ensure correct waste segregation and material handling, and maintain operational supplies.
  • Supervise site staff, providing training and guidance on operational and safety procedures while ensuring appropriate use of PPE and adherence to site standards.
  • Manage environmental controls across the facility, including odour management, leachate control and general site inspections to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain product quality by inspecting incoming organic materials, monitoring compost maturity and ensuring finished product meets recognised industry standards.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Strong operational and leadership capability with a practical, site-based approach. Organised, safety-focused and able to manage both people and operational processes.
  • Ideally experience within composting, waste management, organics processing or a related environmental sector, with working understanding of compost quality standards such as PAS100. Experience supporting or contributing to council tender processes would be advantageous.
  • Strong team leadership skills, ability to prioritise workload effectively and a proactive approach to maintaining high standards across the site. Flexibility around working hours and occasional travel to other company locations may be required.
  • Relevant health and safety and industry qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH, together with WAMITAB or COTC, would be highly desirable.
