Location: Furness Abbey, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA13 0PJ

Salary: £27,424 pro rata / 36 Hours a Week

April to November: 36 hours a week; November to April: 4 hours a week

About the Role

Would you like to work for a charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites across England? We are seeking a motivated Site Manager to join Furness Abbey. No background in history is necessary; what matters most is your passion for people and excellent customer service. You will enjoy working with your team and delivering engaging visitor experiences to diverse audiences.

About English Heritage

As a charity, we care for over a million objects and numerous historic sites, from iconic landmarks to local treasures. We open these sites to share their stories and foster enjoyment, learning, and creativity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire your team to deliver excellent visitor experiences.
  • Optimize opportunities to generate income and meet site performance targets.
  • Ensure the site and facilities are clean and well-maintained.
  • Engage with the local community and ensure the safety and security of the site and assets.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience in customer service within leisure and tourism sectors.
  • Strong supervisory and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A hands-on approach with a focus on visitors.
Working Pattern

From April to October, a variable 5-day week, 36 hours; from November to March, 4 hours a week. Weekend and Bank Holiday work required.
