Job Description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation to recruit a Project HSE Operative.

This is a hands on, highly visible role within a busy production environment, offering the opportunity to play a key part in driving safety standards and continuous improvement across operations.

You will work closely with production and operational teams to embed a proactive safety culture, ensuring HSE practices are not only compliant but practical and fully integrated into day to day activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the ground, engaging with teams, and making a real impact on workplace safety.

In your new role:
  • Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, promoting safe working practices
  • Act as the key point of contact for HSE matters across production and warehouse areas
  • Support teams in identifying hazards and implementing practical safety improvements
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and follow up on corrective actions
  • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Manage Permit to Work systems, including high risk activities such as hot works
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and on the job coaching
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and effective close out actions
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and action trackers
  • Monitor trends and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with HSE legislation, company standards, and audit requirements
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve safety issues in real time
What you will need to succeed:
  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing or production
  • Strong understanding of HSE regulations and their practical application
  • Experience managing permit to work systems
  • Ability to develop and implement risk assessments and RAMS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Proactive, hands on approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a busy environment and manage multiple priorities
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
  • Experience within lean manufacturing or warehousing environments
  • Familiarity with digital HSE management systems
  • Strong problem solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory inspections
