An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join the Cardiac Arrest Prevention (CAP) Team in a Sister/Charge Nurse capacity. The cardiac arrest prevention team provides a comprehensive service for the organisation including a significant training programme for all clinical staff from basic through to advanced courses.
The team's main focus is to eliminate avoidable cardiac arrest through extensive audit programmes, rapid case reviews of any unexpected death or potential failure to rescue, teaching and providing professional support to clinical areas and individuals.
In addition to this the team provides professional advice in relation to cardiac arrest prevention and resuscitation, coordinates the procurement of equipment and organisation of the hospital emergency teams.
Main duties of the jobThe team plays a significant role in patient safety and is involved in proactively managing risk in relation to cardiac arrest prevention &resuscitation. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of cardiac arrest prevention & resuscitation training across the organisation and will assist with the delivery of a strategy that will enable staff to deliver high quality resuscitation care.
Job responsibilities- Deliver effective cardiac arrest prevention training programmes across the organisation.
- Assist the Lead Nurse with duties that will enable the effective running of the cardiac arrest prevention service.
- Contribute to the development of projects and strategy by leading on an identified aspect of cardiac arrest prevention or resuscitation practice.
- Identify and proactively manage cardiac arrest prevention related risk.
- Act as an expert resource for cardiac arrest prevention and resuscitation related issues and actively participate in the management of cardiac arrest and medical emergencies.
- Review any unexpected deaths within the organisation in order to identify any learning opportunities and identify any potential patient safety concerns. Following these reviews the post holder will provide any necessary support to the relevant care groups.
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Person Specification Special Requirements- Ability to travel frequently between hospital sites.
- Teaching qualification (998 or C&G) or relevant teaching experience.
- Registered Nurse Level 1 Qualification required.
- Degree in a health related subject or significant progress towards this.
- Advanced life support provider.
- EPALS provider or willing to work towards.
- Effective communication skills and evidence of teamwork.
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team / patient and their cares.
- Prioritisation of workload effectively.
- Capable of working in a demanding environment.
- To take on additional responsibilities in department area of speciality.
- Teaching qualification (ENB 998, cert ed desirable) or significant teaching experience.
- Relevant experience in a critical care environment (A&E, ITU, CCU, Anaesthetics) including significant exposure to cardiac arrest prevention/resuscitation.
