The Oncology and Haematology Day Unit in the Queens Centre has an exciting opportunity for a committed, experienced and aspiring nurse to lead an established enthusiastic nursing team who already provide high standards of holistic nursing care to patients with cancer who have a variety of medical, nursing and psychological needs.
The Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will be a motivated enthusiastic person with excellent leadership and communication skills. The Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will be a role model leading the team by example to deliver outstanding SACT Services.
The Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will be able to work to their own initiative leading, developing, improving and monitoring standards of care to ensure safety for all patients and staff. As the Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will have overall responsibility to ensure patient safety and be actively involved in recruitment, retention and managing sickness absence.
The new post holder will be supported in their role and will be given the opportunity to achieve their full potential as a competent and effective Unit Sister/Charge Nurse.
Main duties of the jobThe Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will be an inclusive proactive member of the senior nursing team within specialist services.
They will oversee staff development and ensure the ward KPIs are achieved according to the trusts compliance levels.
The Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will work collaboratively with the members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a quality service for our patients. They should have knowledge of the complex SACT regimens and be able to work collaboratively with all members of the MDT.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications- Registered Nurse
- Active on the NMC register
- Enhanced communication course
- Experience of working in a busy environment.
- At least 2 years' experience in the oncology setting at a band 6 level.
- Cannulation competent
- CVAD competent
- Venepuncture competent
- evidence of recent study
