Senior Sister / Charge Nurse - Same Day Medical Assessment Unit (SDMA)

SDMA delivers rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making for emergency same day medical patients. The unit operates 7 days a week, 07 00 Mon Fri and 07 30 on weekends. It supports patient flow, avoids unnecessary admissions and delivers high quality acute medical care.

In a fast paced, clinically demanding environment, you will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care in line with Trust values, national standards and local pathways. Responsibilities include shift leadership, coordinating patient flow, workforce management and clinical priorities, and working closely with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

• Exercise leadership skills to act as a catalyst for change.
• Develop and coordinate effective team working.
• Communicate regularly with the team regarding trust objectives, plans and business developments.

Person specification Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse (RGN).
• Post registered emergency nursing/acute medicine degree qualification or equivalent.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS).

Experience

• Demonstrable registration experience in acute medicine or Accident & Emergency.
• Leadership experience in Accident & Emergency or acute medicine.
• Wide range of clinical experience.
• Supervision of learners and preceptors.

Skills

• Experience of teaching qualified nurses, learners, junior doctors, patients/carers.
• Knowledge of resources management issues.
