Signal Processing Engineer Amsterdam, NL (Hybrid working)
€70,000 - 100,000 PA Gross (includes holiday allowance)
This role could suit a recent PhD graduate with relevant experience gained within applicable commercially led research and development projects (acoustic modelling / signal processing).
The nature of this role:
This role involves the design and development of signal processing algorithms and underwater acoustic modelling techniques to enhance and develop the company's fibreoptic sensing products.
The underwater acoustics research and development work will involve sonar / acoustic modelling, signal processing, and data analysis / data science.
The company:
The company designs and develops innovative fibreoptic sensing systems incorporating real-time signal processing and applies these technologies to a variety of applications. This product is aligned to underwater security for the protection of naval assets.
Hence, candidates that have applied their signal processing skills to underwater acoustics engineering applications would have a significant advantage.
Skills / experience required:
- A strong academic background (ideally a PhD) in a relevant subject which includes at least 3 years applying signal processing, modelling and data analysis techniques to complex signal processing applications (engineering or research environment).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including practical engineering / lab-based experience (able to run and complete experiment and tests)
- Excellent practical knowledge of mathematics, physics, data science techniques.
- Experience of AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) would be useful.
- Use of software tools for algorithm design and modelling (e.g. C++, Python, Matlab, etc)
- Experience with physical modelling, underwater acoustics propagation, wave propagation, signal processing, sonar and applied mathematics or similar would be desirable.
- Strong understanding of signal processing techniques and their implementations (e.g. denoising, filtering, Fourier/wavelet transform, PCA, classification algorithms).
- Data analysis of big data sets (e.g. data captured from acoustic sensors) - able to develop data analysis algorithms (beamforming, event detection and data classification)
- Able to design and assess advanced underwater acoustic modelling techniques and algorithms for Sonar systems (other applications could be considered e.g. computer vision, image processing, DAS, DTS, ADAS / autonomous systems, etc).
Others: beneficial skills:
- Experience with hydrophone arrays and sonar data processing is a plus.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Dutch is an advantage).
- Experience with fiber optic measurement principles and/or interferometry is a plus.
- Experience with CUDA, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LabView skills is a plus.
