Service Operation Engineer (Pre-enablement)
Posted 4 hours 13 minutes ago by Ogi
Ogi is a leading Welsh telco with big ambitions. We're a network builder and operator bringing full-fibre services to communities across South Wales. Our Ogi Pro brand provides everything from telephony to managed IT services, alongside our high-capacity wholesale network that spans the M4 corridor.
Backed by multimillion-pound private investment, we're proud to be an employer of choice in Wales, creating hundreds of jobs across four offices. Join a purpose-driven team with a culture rooted in innovation that's shaping Wales's digital future!
We're continuing to grow our engineering crews across South Wales, and we're now on the lookout for practical, hands-on individuals to join our team. This role focuses on pre-enablement and civils work, helping prepare customer sites for connection to our network across South Wales.
About you
This is a hands-on, field-based role, focused on preparing customer sites so our installation teams can get people connected to our network. It's varied, practical outdoor work, and suits someone who enjoys a physical role where no two days are the same.
Ideally, you'll be based in or around the Swansea area, as the role involves regular travel to jobs across both East and West Wales. A company van will be provided, so you'll need to be comfortable with travel as part of the job.
It's a full-time, permanent role, well suited to someone who takes pride in a job done safely and professionally, and brings a proactive, customer-first mindset to their work.
Ideally, you'll have some experience in a similar field, but we're open to people from adjacent industries too. If you've worked in utilities, construction, groundwork or similar roles, and have experience with tasks such as laying ducting, rodding, or using a cobra, we'd love to hear from you. What matters most is a great attitude, a willingness to learn, and a practical, safety-conscious approach.
You'll also need:
A full UK driving licence
Confidence working in a manual, physical role in all weathers
Strong communication skills - you're comfortable speaking with customers and the team
An understanding of basic civils work (like ducting, digging or reinstatement)
You'll stand out if you have:
Experience with fibre installs (especially in customer premises)
Familiarity with BT Openreach or PIA networks
The ability to read network build drawings (ducts and poles)
Awareness of Health & Safety and environmental standards, including COSHH
And if you hold any of the following qualifications or accreditations, great - but if not, we'll support you with training:
NRSWA - Unit 2 (Signing, Lighting & Guarding)
SA002 (Underground Safety)
Smart Awards including S7 or S8 for PIA (Underground/Overhead), SA001
IPAF
If you're hands-on, adaptable and enjoy variety in your working day, this could be a brilliant opportunity to grow with us.
What you'll be doing
This is a field-based role, supporting our installation teams by getting customer sites ready to be connected. You'll work closely with your supervisor to manage your daily workload and ensure the highest standards in health, safety and quality.
Your day-to-day will include:
Installing fibre sub-duct from the customer premises back to the local network point
Carrying out small civils tasks such as digging, duct clearing and reinstatement
Completing vehicle and equipment checks before each shift
Identifying and reporting any blockages or issues (including raising an A55 if needed)
Speaking with customers to explain the work being done
Completing all necessary health & safety paperwork, including job-specific risk assessments and near-miss reports
Managing your stock and kit effectively, keeping everything organised and ready to go
Attending team meetings or briefings as needed
This is a crucial role that underpins the quality of our customer experience - helping us make sure every install runs smoothly, and every customer gets connected properly the first time.
