Job Description

1. POSITION INFORMATION

Post: Service Engineer

OU/Country: COLUMBUS McKINNON CORPORATION LIMITED/UK

Site Location: BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND

Department: TECHNICAL/OPS

2. PURPOSE/POSITION IN STRUCTURE

Purpose

Front line support in fulfilling customer requirements as required, including inspection, repair and maintenance of various types of cranes, hoists, and control panels. Installation and commissioning, planned maintenance and general lifting equipment, as directed by the Service Co-Ordinator.

Reporting relationships

  • Reporting to Operations Manager
  • Close interaction with Lead Engineer and Service Co-Ordinator
  • No direct reports

  • Works closely with service engineering team
  • Responsible for performance in own role

Organisation requirements

  • Responsible for meeting daily service and repair needs of lifting equipment, crane, height safety and other relevant products/equipment and driving customer satisfaction
  • Document all inspections, maintenance and service repair work and supply/submit paperwork on a weekly basis
  • Maintain clear and concise business communication proficiency, oral and written
  • Ensure that the Service Vehicle, tools, equipment and stock are inspected and maintained
  • Comply with and ensure compliance with all statutory, legislative and Company health and safety, environmental and operating standards, policies and practices
  • Support the team on site as/when required
  • Other reasonable duties in line with the grade of the post
  • Will be required to work alone and as part of a team at times, travel to remote locations across Northern Ireland and possibly Southern Ireland and occasionally work additional and/or other hours outside of core hours

4. RELATIONSHIPS

Internal & external relationships o Direct report into Operations Manager

  • Daily interactions with Belfast team
  • Integral to and providing support to service engineering at site level and to/with colleagues at third party sites

Qualifications required

Specific experiential knowledge

Types of experiences

  • Standard education with 5 x GCSE's gained 4 -9 (incl. Maths/English)
  • Industry-recognised qualification in electrical/mechanical engineering and/or time-served apprenticeship
  • 2 - 3 yrs' experience in a similar role/environment
  • Experience working in lifting industry/cranes an advantage
  • Microsoft App Suite proficiency required
  • Evidence of safety training including manual handling, confined spaces, risk assessment, remote working, working at height, MEWP, FLT an advantage
  • Strong safety mindset and knowledge required
  • Organisation and multi-tasking/prioritisation skills required
  • Strong customer service/customer interaction skills required
  • This position requires occasional lone working, working at remote sites and working at height. Some third party sites have potential exposure to hazardous substances
  • Takes enormous pride in the business, in their work and in understanding their 'customers'
  • Roll up the sleeves team-player, willing to stretch their duties when needed to win as a team
  • Willingness to continue to train, to learn, to grow
  • Some variation in hours and some occasional unsociable hours

  • Basic salary pa DOE

7. LOCATION INFORMATION

Location info

We have locations in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Chester, Cheshire and in Coleshill, Birmingham.

Belfast's premises are 15 minutes outside of the centre of Belfast and within 30 minutes' drive of both local and international airports.

Chester's premises are located on the outskirts of historic Chester city centre which is conveniently placed for access to Liverpool, North Wales and Manchester with good motorway links to M53, A483 and M56.

Coleshill's premises are located just a few minutes' drive from A446 which connects very well with M42 and M6. It is approximately 5 minutes walk away from the nearest train station (Coleshill Parkway) and is within 20 minutes (+/-) of central Birmingham.
