Senior Youth Support Worker in Charge

You'll promote and develop non-formal learning and social education opportunities, for all young people aged primarily 13-19 years. Especially targeting young people identified as being vulnerable through the Children's Services Plan. Working in line with the Council's Youth Offer, and the Gold Standard Youth Service Pledge. You'll focus on safeguarding the welfare of children and young people who access services in, or who are looked after by, Leicester City Council.

The Youth Service work directly with young people aged 13 to 19 years (or up to 25 years with additional needs /disabilities). We have an open and honest approach to our core values of service; we empower young people to be actively involved in the decision making in shaping our service to where we need to be. The leadership team are investors in people and are passionate about ensuring young people needs are met, remain focused on our core values and disseminate this throughout our service in order to move forward together as a team. We invest in accreditation outcomes to enable the young people to obtain awards such as the Asdan award.

Based at a Youth Centre. You'll be required to participate in various meetings such as team meetings, You'll also be required to attend mandatory training internal and external.

You'll be able to work flexible hours, with core daytime hours youll also work particular evenings and school holidays as well as occasional weekends.

What you'll be doing

lead a team of Assistant Youth Support Workers in the delivery of opportunities to young people using youth work methods and curriculum programmes with a designated satellite youth centre or project. Delivering targeted youth support - providing better and more personalised intensive support for those young people with the greatest need.

Providing written evidence of success using the Evidence Based Framework for Positive Outcomes, data collection and recordings appropriate to the role. Providing better information, advice and guidance to help young people make more informed choices. Enabling young people-to make a contribution by encouraging more young people to volunteer, gain accredited outcomes and become involved in their communities.

What you'll need

With a NVQ level 3 / Diploma Youth Work, youth and community or equivalent. You'll have experience of working with young people in informal or formal settings. Using your existing skills, expertise or interests to build a relevant curriculum.

With proficient IT skills, you'll be able to effectively to collate data and produce reports as well as maintain records on systems, complete sessional planning and recording sheets. You'll have excellent communication skills to be able to engage with young people, form constructive relationships to achieve positive outcomes and handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
