We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Thematic Review Manager
Role Purpose:
The Senior Thematic Review Manager is a key member of the UK Business Risk function, part of the First Line of Defence, responsible for embedding the Risk Management Framework across HSBC UK. This role leads entity-wide thematic reviews to challenge ineffective controls, processes, and behaviours, driving improvements in risk management and control effectiveness.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, the role provides expert risk insights, delivers control remediation, and supports the safe growth of HSBC UK in line with strategic objectives. The post-holder will influence decision-making at senior levels, strengthen the control environment, and help shape the bank's risk culture.

In this role you will:
• Plan, scope, and deliver entity-wide thematic reviews to assess policy adherence, customer outcomes, and control effectiveness, producing clear, evidence-based findings.
• Drive control improvement initiatives across HSBC UK to address identified gaps, close issues promptly, and strengthen operational risk management.
• Analyse and interpret complex risk and control data to identify themes, emerging risks, and opportunities for process enhancement.
• Engage and influence senior stakeholders and regulators, representing HSBC UK's position in global and entity-level risk forums.
• Lead and matrix-manage resources to ensure reviews and improvement activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Promote and embed a strong risk culture by sharing best practices, supporting risk capability development, and ensuring fair customer outcomes.
• Help to develop and shape the forward agenda and own and deliver ad-hoc work as required
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
• Proven background in risk management, assurance, or audit within financial services.
• Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks, controls, and governance processes.
• Understanding of payments risk would be advantageous.
• Skilled in analysing complex data to produce clear, actionable insights.
• Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders, including executives and regulators.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distil complex issues into simple recommendations.
• Proven leadership, team management, and project delivery skills.
• Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working with uncertainty and within tight deadlines.
• Collaborative, inclusive, and committed to continuous improvement in risk management.
This role is based in Birmingham RFB Headquarters (GB5300) Open to Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh and Sheffield.
