Proposed Salary Range: £55,000-£59,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. London Weighting is added on top of the base salary £5,441.The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join BBC Studios to help shape high-quality digital products used across global platforms. As a Senior Tester - Automation Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our CMS, front-end, and API products, using automation to support scalable, reliable delivery at speed.

YOUR KEY RESPONSABILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Shape and execute the product or stream's test strategy, ensuring robust coverage across frontend, CMS, and API layers.
  • Own automation design, implementation, and maintenance using Playwright (or similar) with Cucumber, integrating into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Plan, estimate, and report on testing activities using data to assess quality, manage risk, and guide release readiness.
  • Collaborate across teams to coordinate cross-product testing, improve processes, and embed shift-left practices.
  • Mentor testers, share best practices, and contribute to the wider quality community to drive consistency and learning.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong manual and automation testing background in agile environments, with expertise in Playwright with TypeScript and Cucumber or similar tools.
  • Skilled in designing and maintaining automation frameworks, working with CI/CD, and interpreting metrics for improvement.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, able to work independently, manage defects, and support planning/reporting.
  • Experienced in mentoring testers, using test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Xray), and promoting QA best practices.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience contributing to wider quality strategies and introducing new tools or frameworks.
  • Knowledge of non-functional testing areas such as performance or security.
  • Active involvement in testing or quality communities of practice.
