Location Overview:
Join our Bromley office, located in a green borough of London, with easy access to central London (15 minutes by train). You may work at our London office to collaborate with the Electronic Trading Technology team.
The Team:
The Electronic Trading Technology (ETT) team supports Global Markets and Investment Banking, providing innovative low-latency trading solutions, including FIX connectivity, smart order routing, and algorithmic trading. The team is global, with a strong presence in AMRS, EMEA, and APAC, balancing regional needs with a global perspective.
The EMEA ETT team comprises experienced developers, analysts, and QA professionals working closely with the business to support existing platforms and roll out next-generation electronic trading solutions to handle higher data volumes and customer flows efficiently.
Role Description:
This role involves building and leading a team to deliver technology products that meet business outcomes. Responsibilities include developing technology strategies, ensuring compliance with standards, promoting best practices, and advancing Agile delivery. The role also involves coaching, mentoring, stakeholder management, and talent development.
We seek a Senior Technology Manager to support development of the cross-asset Algo Trading Engines platform for Global Equities Cash Technology, Global Futures, and Global FX trading. This platform is strategic for upgrading execution capabilities and expanding our market share with high-performance solutions. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in Electronic Trading of Equities using Java and a passion for modern architecture and development practices. You will work with multiple organizational partners, including senior leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver key functional changes to ETT strategy engines
- Implement core framework-level updates
- Collaborate with quantitative trading teams to gather requirements
- Participate in all development lifecycle stages (requirements, coding, testing, review, support)
- Lead performance and career development through reviews, coaching, and development plans
- Support workforce planning, training, and quality objectives
What We Are Looking For:
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in developing modern systems with automation-focused practices, especially shift-left testing
- Strong knowledge of core Java APIs (collections, concurrency, NIO)
- Experience with multithreaded, low-latency systems, Java garbage collection, and I/O
- Familiarity with design patterns (Observer, Factory, Singleton)
- Development practices including TDD, UML, OO design, and tools like Eclipse/IntelliJ, GIT, Maven/Gradle
- Ability to mentor junior team members and take technical direction
- Capability to handle development, testing, support, and evaluation roles
Helpful Skills:
- Understanding of benchmark algorithms or smart routing strategies (VWAP, TWAP, Arrival Price)
- Experience with agile methodologies
- Design and architecture experience in front-office systems (algo trading topology)
- Knowledge of equities and derivatives markets
- Familiarity with FIX protocol (heartbeat, login, message types)
