About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Stress Engineer to join our design team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a technical leadership role within a dynamic and innovative environment. The successful candidate will work across all phases of the project life cycle, including research, design, demonstration, development, production, and customer support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of rocket motor hardware, including metals, rubber/rigid insulants, bondlines, and propellant charges using Abaqus.
  • Analyse new and existing rocket motor systems, including structural and thermal assessments.
  • Use software and programming tools such as Abaqus, Altair-Hyper works, Fortran, and Mat lab.
  • Review material testing results and advise on model validation and verification.
  • Develop motor structural test plans and participate in the assessment of testing results.
  • Act as the structural performance technical authority for assigned projects, supporting design reviews, project investigations, and customer meetings.
  • Prepare and deliver project documentation, including structural analysis reports, test plans, and design records.
  • Contribute to product certification using expert technical knowledge.
  • Lead and stay updated on industry technical innovations, supporting new technology research programmes.
  • Schedule, plan, and prioritise tasks to ensure timely delivery.
  • Identify and manage risks, including time, quality, and cost issues, and communicate solutions effectively.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in Abaqus FEA software or related software
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in Stress Engineering, ideally within the defence or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of materials science, particularly composites, viscoelastic materials, and adhesives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Experience with CAD modelling and Altair-Hyper works is advantageous.
