We are seeking an experienced Senior Strategist - Data & AI Strategy to join a specialist team delivering high-impact data transformation across UK Central Government. This role is not about writing strategy documents - it's about making strategy happen.
You'll work at senior levels, tackling policy-level blockers, driving implementation, and shaping how data and AI are operationalised across complex government environments.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role ideal for someone who has delivered real outcomes at scale within government.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the implementation of a cross-government data strategy
- Turn strategic intent into practical delivery, supporting adoption across departments
- Support integration and implementation of AI initiatives in complex, multi-source data landscapes
- Identify and resolve policy-level bottlenecks affecting data sharing and governance
- Engage senior stakeholders confidently (CDIU/CDU and equivalent)
- Work closely with a small strategic roadmap team to drive high-impact outcomes
- Ensure strategy, delivery, and AI adoption pathways are aligned and actionable
Essential Experience (Must-Have)
Candidates will not be considered without these:
Central Government Experience- Strong experience operating within UK Central Government
- Knowledge of cross-departmental challenges, policy constraints, and delivery environments
Strategy Implementation (Critical)
- Demonstrable experience implementing data strategies end-to-end
- Evidence of how strategies led to measurable delivery outcomes
- Experience enabling transformation across public sector or local government
AI & Data Expertise
- Understanding of current AI landscapes and opportunities in government
- Experience implementing AI or data-driven initiatives in complex environments
- Awareness of data governance, interoperability issues, and technical delivery practices
Senior Stakeholder Capability
- Able to engage senior leaders confidently
- Skilled at unblocking policy and organisational barriers
- Comfortable delivering in a fast-paced, high-visibility role
Desirable Experience
(Not mandatory but beneficial)
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary digital delivery teams
- Knowledge of emerging data/AI policy frameworks
- Exposure to enterprise data governance models
