What is a Senior Staff Officer?

A Senior Staff Officer (SSO) is a middle management position within DLRCC.

As SSO, you would be

  • assigned responsibility for the day-to-day administration and management of an area of the Council's activities.
  • aneffective, participative leader of a team with responsibility for organisation and management of all aspects of a section or sections including the supervision of staff.
  • a key point of contact and liaison with other Sections or Departments in relation to all operational matters for the service delivery section or sections for which they are responsible.
  • expected to carry out your duties with an understanding of the political context of local government and in such a manner that enhances public trust and confidence and ensures impartial decision-making.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Meets the minimum educational/experience requirements as outlined in the particulars document.
  • Has strong experience in office and administrative work, including some experience with responsibilities at a more senior or decision-making level.
  • Has experience leading, motivating and supporting a team.
  • Is committed to delivering high-quality, customer-focused public services.
  • Has excellent organisational, interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and decision-making skills along with a willingness to embrace new ways of working and actively support others through change.
