Senior Software Engineer - Platform Designer

To be successful as a Senior Software Engineer, you should have experience with:

• Experience in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platforms, focusing on hybrid/multi-cloud environments, with proven experience in creating frameworks, architecture, and design of cloud solutions. Experience in modern architectures such as event-driven, domain-driven design, AI, and machine learning.

• Microservices & API Design: Designing modular, scalable systems using RESTful or GraphQL APIs, API gateways, load balancers.

• Data architecture design, including creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models, ensuring data lineage, masking, and compliance with GDPR and DPDP Act.

• Building automated CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.

Additional valued skills include:

• Understanding of the finance industry to align solutions with business goals, with a focus on cost optimization. Knowledge of GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, and certifications like AWS Solutions Architect or TOGAF.

• Ability to see the big picture, understanding component interactions, and performing trade-off analysis for performance, scalability, cost, and maintainability.

• Risk management skills to identify and mitigate architectural and technical risks.

• Translating business needs into technical solutions, creating clear architecture diagrams and documentation, working effectively with developers, project managers, and analysts.

This role is based in Northampton.

Purpose of the role

Design, develop, and implement solutions to complex business problems, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs, designing solutions that balance technology risks and business delivery, and ensuring consistency.

Accountabilities

• Design and develop solutions as products that evolve with business requirements, following modern engineering practices and automation tools.
• Apply workload placement strategies to maximize cloud benefits like elasticity, serverless, containerization.
• Incorporate security principles into designs, meeting resiliency expectations.
• Balance risks and controls to deliver value.
• Use standard solutions when appropriate, contribute to their evolution when necessary.
• Support operational teams with fault finding and performance issues, utilizing available tools.
• Assess impact of solutions in terms of risk, capacity, and cost, including ongoing costs.
• Create architecture artifacts for governance compliance, including privacy, security, and records management.
