Job Description
Job Summary

Are you an experienced registered nurse with a passion for leadership and specialist cancer care? We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and motivated Senior Sister to join Ward J88, a specialist Haematology ward within Leeds Cancer Centre - one of the UK's largest providers of specialist cancer care.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide strong clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing team.
  • Ensure high standards of care, efficiency, and collaboration within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Act as a role model, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
  • Drive quality assurance, audit processes, and continuous service improvement.
  • Manage the operational, financial, and administrative aspects of the ward.
  • Carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of Ward J88.
  • Develop and maintain the ward's philosophy with the patient at the centre of compassionate, safe, and quality care delivery.
  • Ensure cost effective use of resources through effective financial management.
  • Establish effective communication across the team and with multidisciplinary partners and support both qualified and unqualified nurses.
  • Lead the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • Promote evidence based practice and provide leadership development for team members.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children's areas) - Level 1 or 2.
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.
  • Degree in Nursing or related subject or equivalent professional experience.
  • Evidence of effective professional and leadership development.
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required.
Experience
  • Significant experience within a leadership role or equivalent.
  • Experience of managing and leading a nursing team.
  • Experience of clinical audit, standard setting and performance management.
  • Recruitment and selection knowledge.
  • Commitment to clinical audit, research and evidence based practice.
  • Understanding of Human Resources policies and guidance as relevant to clinical team management.
  • Understanding of organisational structures, national service guidance and the business of the ward.
Person Specification

The successful candidate will meet the above qualifications and experience, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, have the ability to motivate team members and promote change management, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A commitment to professional development and the development of the nursing team is essential.
