Senior Quantum Scientist

Xairos is building a quantum-enabled Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) system. Our Quantum Time Transfer (QTT) technology delivers sub-nanosecond timing accuracy with resilience to GPS jamming and spoofing. We'vepartnered with ESA, UKRI, NASAand others to develop this core capability and now we are starting to deliver it to the customers and partners who need it.

Role Overview:

Xairos UK is seeking aSenior Quantum Scientist to help deliver the deployment of its Quantum Time Transfer technology.In particular, you develop and build quantum technology systems where you will integrate quantum communication, cold atom and quantum clock subsystems to develop the company's quantum networking capability. You will invent, perform feasibility analysis and test novel protocols, systems and techniques in advanced quantum timing applications. Through your knowledge of quantum physics and as a practical implementer you will apply systems engineer skills to advancing R&D up the TRL ladder and provide key inputs into company roadmap activities.

What You'll Do:

Lead complex scientific research projects from initial concept and experimental design through to implementation, analysis, reporting and technical recommendations.

Work with key partners to develop quantum technologies into novel timing applications.

What You Need:

Background in quantum physics/engineering with postgraduate qualification in applied research.

Experience in leading R&D projects involving measurement, characterisation and operation of quantum optics, atom optics or quantum networks.

Knowledge of wider quantum ecosystem and up to date with latest trends and developments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex scientific information for different technical audiences.

The ability to analyse complex datasets, develop meaningful performance metrics and translate results into clear technical recommendation.

Experience in technical leadership, and mentoring and developing knowledge within a team.

Nice to Have:

Post doctoral or industry experience in lab-based quantum technology R&D.

Aptitude for commercialisation and business development including conference dissemination.
