Job Purpose:
The Senior Quality Engineer will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality software products. The role will act as a guardian of quality and continually seek ways to improve processes, tools, and techniques. This is a hands-on, techno-functional role with strong Agile test delivery experience to guide, oversee, and deliver testing activities within a product team.
In this role, the candidate will lead testing efforts, mentor offshore testers, and ensure the delivery of high-quality releases. Key responsibilities include test planning, test case preparation, test execution, test automation, and defect management to drive continuous improvement in Agile testing processes.
This role will have a matrix-based reporting structure, reporting operationally to the Quality Engineering Practice Manager and functionally to the respective Engineering Delivery Lead/Manager for delivery oversight.
Key Responsibilities :
Test Delivery & Collaboration:
- Act as a quality advocate within the Product team, working with cross-functional Agile team members to ensure high-quality test deliverables.
- Work closely with the Engineering Delivery Lead/Manager on testing activities and promote a shift-left testing approach.
- Participate in all stages of the Agile development lifecycle including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospective, Backlog refinement, and test planning.
- Support production incidents and service requests resolution by monitoring systems, coordinating with teams, and documenting processes for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Quality Engineering Practice Manager to track quality metrics such as test coverage, automation coverage, defect density, and leakage.
- Guide offshore test team members, fostering skill development and collaboration.
- Understand critical business processes and document/build an in-house knowledge repository.
Hands-On Testing & Test Automation:
- Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases covering functional, integration, and regression scenarios.
- Maintain and enhance test automation scripts using tools like Katalon Studio.
- Explore opportunities for in-sprint automation with engineering leads.
- Conduct root cause analysis and ensure timely defect resolution.
- Support acceptance testing and facilitate demos during sprints.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to resolve environment and deployment issues.
Performance Objectives:
- Adapt quickly to product team ways of working.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and demonstrate testing contributions.
- Establish knowledge transfer plans with stakeholders.
- Work with the Practice Manager to improve testing practices.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years in Scrum teams, specializing in manual and automation testing.
- 2-3 years as a Senior Quality Engineer with proficiency in Pega, Katalon, DevOps CI/CD, and Azure Test Plans.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- High proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Preferred: Knowledge of London Market Insurance, LM1/2 certification.
