This role is a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering Continuous Improvement team, supporting our operations strategy by creating a safe environment, identifying and driving efficiency, quality and cost improvements, supporting on time customer delivery and meeting cost reduction commitments.
Basic Function- Support & actively drive the Continuous Improvement strategy through the effective application of Lean Manufacturing tools, including 5S, SMED, No Fault Forward, Flow, Pull, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, structured problem solving, and visual management.
- Own and deliver manufacturing improvement projects that are effective, sustainable, and fully compliant with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements.
- Develop and evaluate manufacturing concepts and solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
- Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes in a clear, consistent, and timely manner to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Influence and engage effectively with operators, engineers, and leadership to drive alignment and successful implementation of change.
- Demonstrate a high level of self motivation and urgency, applying a structured and disciplined project management approach.
- A tenacious, enthusiastic, and results driven individual with strong time management and prioritisation skills.
- Highly structured and organised, with the ability to work independently, collaboratively within a team, or to lead cross functional teams as required.
- Drive the adoption of best practices across the business, building strong relationships with leadership teams and process owners to align objectives and remove barriers to process improvement.
- Own the delivery of new manufacturing systems, assembly automation, and capital equipment to production lines, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Use manufacturing data, performance metrics, and trend analysis to identify improvement opportunities and drive actions that deliver measurable improvements across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP).
- Coach and mentor engineers and production support technicians, promoting engineering best practice and developing strong, practical problem solving capability.
- Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, safety, supply chain, and product development teams to support problem solving, continuous improvement activities, and capital project delivery.
- Take ownership of manufacturing issues, applying structured problem solving methodologies to systematically identify root causes and implement robust solutions within demanding timescales.
- Ensure appropriate process controls, standard work, and documentation are established and maintained for all manufacturing processes, in line with business requirements and ISO 9001 standards.
- Proactively identify potential hazards through robust risk assessment and implement effective control measures to support the organisation's drive towards zero injuries.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent engineering experience with a completed engineering apprenticeship.
- Able to demonstrate experience in delivering continuous improvement in previous roles.
- Experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with automated assembly equipment and OEE would be beneficial.
- Formal qualification in Six Sigma, project management and / or lean tools would be beneficial.
